Why I like Market Rasen

2012 has arrived - and a group of hardworking volunteers are already ready to make your dreams for Market Rasen a reality. There are more than 3,000 people in the town who can make the year in which we celebrate the Olympic Games and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee one to remember. But how many will? Market Rasen's Community Plan volunteers will continue their meetings this year to produce a path to prosperity covering the next 10 years. It's not surprising a swimming pool/leisure centre was at the top of the list of 'wants' on the Christmas Wish Tree at a public consultation, even though the town has been told it can't have one because the local authority believes it wouldn't get enough support to make it sustainable. Joining the Community Plan group is your chance to make your voice heard and prove them wrong. I'm so proud to be your community publisher on Market Rasen People, because I get to hear all about what's happening and share it with you. Market Rasen People can play its part by creating a forum for residents to have their say and promote their activities. Since the website was launched a year ago, people from across the country have enjoyed reading what happens in the town - and it's popularity grows month by month. Our galleries are a brilliant tourism tool and record of what happens in the area. I am just a small part of this. Success for me is when someone new registers and becomes a part of Market Rasen People - because that's what a community website is all about, bringing local people together in one place to share their experiences. Thank you to all those who are already on board and have made me so welcome in the town this year. I really couldn't have done it without you!
